In history, the Israelites often were told to make memorial stone pillars. These were piles of rock that were to remind the people (and tell others) that God had done something big in their lives. God knew (and still does) that people benefit from visuals. These memorial stones gave the people a chance to tell the story again, either to those who were there and need to be reminded, or to those who were not and needed to know what happened. It also was an opportunity to be refreshed in their faith.I am grateful to be on this side of the cross and to have the Bible. The Living Word is the best memorial stone ever. It tells the whole story. You don't have to ask someone who was there to tell the story to you, they have and He did. It is written down for you to read on your own. God's love for His People is amazing in Scripture. The way in which He has shown His faithfulness over and over is astounding.
Yet, I think we are missing out by not having memorial stones in our own lives. We tend to look at Scripture and forget that the faithfulness displayed there is actually happening in our own lives too. I think it's important that we take time to record the times God has shown Himself in amazing ways to us personally.
So, I am officially starting a monthly tradition here. Once a month I will share a story from my own life of when God made himself and his power known. It will take time, but I know it will be worth it. I would love it if you would join me. I will have a Mr. Linky set up for you to link to your blog and the story you share there AND I will open the blog for anonymous comments on that day so those of you who read and do not have a blog can join in by leaving your story in the comments section. I am telling you now so that you have advance notice. Time to start making a list and getting your stories together. Choose one for this month and get it down 'on paper'. I know that we will bless each other through sharing these memorial stones via words. Just think what a wonderful collection it will be for you and your loved ones later. You could keep every story in a file and print it out. Start a family Memorial Stone Collection!
The only two guidelines I ask you to follow to participate are
1) That the story you share be something that happened to you personally and
2) That you keep the story to less than one thousand words (no, I won't be counting, this is just to keep people reading your testimony... those words add up quicky! ex: this post is 516 words)
The first Memorial Stones in Words will be Monday, March 30th.
Lastly, I will have a giveaway every month for those who participate in the Memorial Stones in Words. Different gifts every month.
Spread the word. Let's read what God has done!
p.s. I know you may be thinking, "Oh, man! I can't think of anything big!" But that's why we're doing this. The big things are there, they just aren't at the forefront of your mind. Take time to pray and ask God to bring them to mind. I bet they do.

What a great idea! I can already think of a few. Now the task of finding the time to write them out! grin
What a fantastic idea! You're right--if it was a good idea for the Israelites, why not a good idea for those of us who call ourselves His people today?
I LOVE this idea. This is the reason I blog, afterall...you just say it so eloquently. I don't know about a thousand words, though. I will see what I can do:)
I would, LOVE, LOVE to link our story! What a great idea- just think of the lives that will be change from reading reallife accounts of God working in lives! He is big, and is working all the time. We definitely need to stop, take notice, and share it!! Let me know how I do this...
